Settling in

So, it’s official… we have moved into “this old house” and we are still figuring it all out! This past Monday we finished packing up our NYC apartment and started the unpacking in our new home. We had been making trips back and forth since the close in early August. Of course, only when we had other business going on in NJ.  This helped a lot as we were able to bring the more fragile items over ourselves and stopped us from having to buy paper and plastic for wrapping. And with the exception of 2 wardrobe boxes we didn’t have to purchase any packing materials further. We made it a point to coordinate with our building in NYC to take any boxes available from prior movers. Recycle, reuse, reduce!

As we continue to unload boxes and organize closets, we have been discussing how to be methodical about future renovations. Many people have told us to live in your home awhile before doing anything. This has been wise advise and already has us rethinking things.

That being said, the deck was a real eye sore that couldn’t entirely wait for spring’s phase 3 renovations, so my husband took matters into his own hands… literally! He simply fetched a wrench and proceeded to dismantle the railings so we could enjoy an unobstructed view of the lovely landscaping, some of which is already
xeriscaped(more eco-friendly). You can see what a difference removing those railings made by looking from left to right in the photo above. Most evenings this week we sipped cocktails on our veranda and discussed the future of our backyard and how to do it sustainably. Be sure to follow us on reels and Instagram to check out real time updates and watch how we transform “this old house” into a super chic and green friendly home!
